A rundown of events for my Traveling Brothers containing an Agenda style Calendar in a news blurb style of what’s happening within 60 miles of Shelton, WA what I consider “Within My Cabletow” hence the title. Some of these descriptions give full details including addresses suitable for your GPS navigation systems or smart phones with the most current events up first. Contained “Within” are snippets of the flavor of a particular Lodge or event. It also contains a section at the bottom titled “What HAS Happened”. On the Right Sidebar is an explanation of how you can have your event reported. This is my attempt to help get MORE information and thereby attend more events. I want these events to thrive. So check it out: you might like what you see, or find something about your Lodge you didn’t know or that you may want to say better. Thursday April 1st – 6:30 p.m. – Tenino @ Tenino Lodge: Corned Beef and Cabbage Extraordinaire. W.B. Rich Lathrope submits this: “Tenino had their first corned beef and cabbage night in the District – back in the early 1980’s. WB Norm Reed had located a local source for corned beef which always tasted a little bit better than the stuff you got at the supermarket. Everyone in the District used to turn out for the event, and that was in days when there were not a lot of events. Although there was no alcohol in those days, Tenino somehow always seemed to be a very friendly place. We have located a new source for exceptionally high quality, local, natural corned beef and it will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday April 1st at the newly re-furbished Tenino Lodge. It will be served along with cabbage and small red potatoes with all the trimmings. Bread pudding will be served for dessert. Ladies and youngsters are welcomed. We will also be serving hard cider from the keg – a perfect (and original) part of the menu in Ireland. Derek and Hal are combining on the cooking so you have the best two cooks in District 17 preparing your meal. The cost is just $10, or $8 if you make an online reservation. We have added an application to enable you to pay online by credit or debit card, but you can continue to make reservations and pay by cash or check at the door for the reduced price. They are located across the street from the marina and enjoy one of the greatest views in Puget Sound. Parking is available adjacent to the temple. Overflow parking may use the parking lots at the marina. They have sold the building so come see them for some of the last meetings before they build their new Temple.

Monday April 5, – 6:30/7:30 p.m. –Silverdale #311, Stated Communication:12535 Clear Creek Road “Grange Hall” Silverdale. 1^st Monday except if a Holiday then the 2^nd Monday. Dinner (potluck) is served at 6:30 p.m. Stated at 7:30p.m. Some of the Best Filipino/American cuisine served anywhere is served by the Brethren of this Lodge. Their annual installations have a standing room only crowd to witness the annual recurrence of the auspicious occasion followed by a feast of outstanding food. Chartered on July 13^th 1985 at Silverdale, in Kitsap County. One of the interesting facts about this Lodge is that the dispensation was granted on January 7th 1985 by Grand Master Matt Martin to Grand Master Matt Martin and 25 others.

Tuesday April 6, – 6:30/7:30 p.m. –Steadfast #216, Manette (Bremerton), Stated Communication: Manette Masonic Temple 1020 Perry Ave. (360) 479-3977. Held on the 1st Tuesday of every month. Dinner before almost every meeting at 6:30. They communicate at 7:30 PM. Steadfast Lodge #216 was Chartered June 14th, 1916 at Manette (now considered to be Bremerton), in Kitsap County. They originally considered naming the Lodge Mosaic, Trowel and Utopia. They settled on Steadfast to indicate that it would always be firm and constant in teaching the Masonic principles of virtue, honor and duty. One of the things that is peculiar to this Lodge is that all Masonic Ritual work was taught "mouth to ear" in as much as ciphers did not exist in the early days, or were forbidden to be used, and was done in the boiler room. This practice has changed over the years but there are still two chairs sitting next to the boiler as a symbolic reminder of their "Steadfast Roots". Please note that "mouth to ear" was practiced in every Lodge BUT not in such an interesting place. The Town of Manette took its name from the first steam boat that used its new wharf on the Washington Narrows opposite Bremerton. In the early days Masons from the "Bremerton side" had to catch a ferry across to the "Manette side" in order to attend Lodge. This was the standard routine until the Manette Bridge was built. If you missed the 10:00 PM Ferry you were stranded. There is an interesting story told by V.W.B. Chuck Compton about a story that was told to him about a Lodge Dance, some non-union musicians and some hard nosed Union people. Get him to tell it to you when you visit the Lodge. M.W.B. James N. Reid Jr. also calls this his home Lodge and is seen frequently, adding his wit and humor to the Stated Communications. Port Orchard #98 is scheduled to visit this night.

Our regular business meetings of the Lodge are every second Thursday at 7:30 pm except June when we meet on the 1st Thursday. Step up night is Thursday June 3^rd , Elections July 8th This meeting has been designated FILL THE LODGE NIGHT (FtLN) Members and especially Officers of District 3 & 12 are encouraged to “Fill the Lodge Night” Baked Stuffed Pork Chops, corn, salad and rolls with butter are on the menu.

This fine harbor on Puget Sound was suggested early as a Naval Station by William Bremer who platted the city in 1891.

Saturday April 10th, - 10:00 a.m. Quilcene Jefferson Lodge #107, Quilcene, Mount Olympus Logging Side #298 “The Loggers Degree” CHANGE OF DATE: I have witnessed this degree in the Lodge room and under the trees in the “landing” by the Lodge, weather permitting. The Grand Master Gayle H. Kenney will be the exemplar candidate dressed in clothes supplied by the Master. This is a hilarious degree and the Loggers legacy in Masonry abounds. I hear there is a traveling axe trophy for the Lodge that brings the most brethren from the farthest distance dressed in “Forks Tuxedo” (hickory shirt and jeans w/ suspenders).

Monday April 12, – 6:30/7:30 p.m. –Renton Lodge #29, Bainbridge Island: 1299 Grow Ave. NW. Bainbridge Island. Their Stated Communication is held on the 2nd Monday of the Month. The Lodge is Dark in July and August. The Lodge hosts a dinner prior to almost every stated meeting. Worshipful Master George Howton and his wife Penny are the consummate hosts, even with this three time Past Master’s recent heart valve replacement. Also on board are W. B. Louie Peltier and V.W. Bro. Bernie Korst. The "kitchen help" will make sure that your trip to their Lodge will be one that you will not regret. Bring your bibs the food is always good and there is always plenty. The Lodge was chartered June 5th, 1879 at Port Blakely, a lumbering and sawmill town in Kitsap County. Johnston Blakely was a hero of the War of 1812 and the town was so named Blakely Harbor. The Lodge was named for Captain William Renton, who established the Port Blakely Mill. He was not a Mason, but his nephew, John A. Campbell, was a Chartered Member, and the second Master of the Lodge. Tonight will be “Past Masters and Widows night” a pork dinner is planned.

Tuesday April 13, - 7:00 p.m. - John Paul Jones #271: Gig Harbor, Stated Communication: 3025 96th St. NW (253) 858-3126. They hold their stated Communication the 2nd Tuesday of each Month. They are dark in the months of July and August. It starts at 7:30 PM with refreshments afterwards. John Paul Jones Lodge #271 was Chartered on June 16^th 1926 at Gig Harbor, in Pierce County. This area was a base for many fishermen and they looked for a name associated with the sea. Brother John Paul Jones had been a Mason in Scotland and later came to the United States during the Revolutionary War, greatly aiding the American Cause. “The present Lodge meets in a converted School House, the old Crescent Valley School was obtained in the late 1940's and was dedicated in a Lodge in1951 (which it owns free and clear). There are two Scholarship Funds in the Lodge. The John H. Quistorff Scholarship provides funds for a graduating Senior in each of the two High Schools in the Gig Harbor area. The Ensley H. Kahley Scholarship Fund provides funds for the School Awards Program. The money for these funds was provided by the brothers for whom they were named and the principal is never touched. The Lodge also serves a very tasty Breakfast each Sunday Morning at:8:00 – 10:00a.m., and is well worth a trip to beautiful Gig Harbor.

Wednesday April 14, – 7:30 p.m. –Franklin #5, Port Gamble, Stated Communication: Franklin Lodge #5 is situated in the quaint and historical town or Port Gamble on 6 Rainer Street. Home of the Franklin Model for Lodge Meetings: Good Food, Strong Fellowship and SHORT MEETINGS. “Number Five out in Fifty-five” (#5 out in 55). They meet on the 2^nd Wednesday of every month except June when it is held on the Wednesday following the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge. No official Lodge business is conducted prior to 7:30PM on the stated meeting night. There is a dinner at 6:30p.m. prior to the stated meeting, unless otherwise announced. Port Orchard #98 is scheduled to visit.

Tuesday May 4, – 6:30/7:30 p.m. –Steadfast #216, Manette (Bremerton), Stated Communication: Manette Masonic Temple 1020 Perry Ave. (360) 479-3977. Held on the 1st Tuesday of every month. Dinner before almost every meeting at 6:30. They communicate at 7:30 PM. Steadfast Lodge #216 was Chartered June 14th, 1916 at Manette (now considered to be Bremerton), in Kitsap County. They originally considered naming the Lodge Mosaic, Trowel and Utopia. They settled on Steadfast to indicate that it would always be firm and constant in teaching the Masonic principles of virtue, honor and duty. One of the things that is peculiar to this Lodge is that all Masonic Ritual work was taught "mouth to ear" in as much as ciphers did not exist in the early days, or were forbidden to be used, and was done in the "boiler room". This practice has changed over the years but there are still two chairs sitting next to the boiler as a symbolic reminder of their "Steadfast Roots". Please note that "mouth to ear" was practiced in every Lodge BUT not in such an interesting place. The Town of Manette took its name from the first steam boat that used its new wharf on the Washington Narrows opposite Bremerton. In the early days Masons from the "Bremerton side" had to catch a ferry across to the "Manette side" in order to attend Lodge. This was the standard routine until the Manette Bridge was built. If you missed the 10:00 p.m. Ferry you were stranded. There is an interesting story told by V.W.B. Chuck Compton about a story that was told to him about a Lodge Dance, some non-union musicians and some hard nosed Union people. Get him to tell it to you when you visit the Lodge. M.W.B. James N. Reid Jr. also calls this his home Lodge and is seen frequently, adding his wit and humor to the Stated Communications.

The Lodge was chartered June 5^th 1879 at Port Blakely, a lumbering and sawmill town in Kitsap County. Johnston Blakely was a hero of the War of 1812 and the town was so named Blakely Harbor. The Lodge was named for Captain William Renton, who established the Port Blakely Mill. He was not a Mason, but his nephew, John A. Campbell, was a Chartered Member and the second Master of the Lodge.

John Paul Jones Lodge #271 was Chartered on June 16^th 1926 at Gig Harbor, in Pierce County. This area was a base for many fishermen and they looked for a name associated with the sea. Brother John Paul Jones had been a Mason in Scotland and later came to the

United States

during the Revolutionary War, greatly aiding the American Cause. “The present Lodge meets in a converted School House, the old Crescent Valley School was obtained in the late 1940's and was dedicated in a Lodge in1951 (which it owns free and clear). There are two Scholarship Funds in the Lodge. The John H. Quistorff Scholarship provides funds for a graduating Senior in each of the two High Schools in the Gig Harbor area. The Ensley H. Kahley Scholarship Fund provides funds for the School Awards Program. The money for these funds was provided by the brothers for whom they were named and the principal is never touched. The Lodge also serves a very tasty Breakfast each Sunday Morning at:8:00 – 10:00a.m., and is well worth a trip to beautiful Gig Harbor.

Sunday August 8th – Unity Church, Dupont – 4:00 p.m. - 2010 Unity March: We are truly blessed by our relationship with the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge and Jurisdiction. We exemplify this relationship each year by a Unity March, just North of Olympia, dressed as Masons. So set aside this Sunday afternoon, and attend church with us and join in the Pot Luck picnic afterwards on the picnic grounds behind the Church. This will be my fourth time attending, it is one of those annual events I try not to miss. Come and see how good it is for Brethren to dwell together in Unity.

Friday March – 12th Thru March 14th ALL DAY EVENTS Deputy Grand Master’s Wardens Conference , Clarion Hotel, Yakima: The best Wardens Conference ever. Over 300 pages of information was included in our take home books, with lots of insight and inspiration. I am fired up to bring this information forward. How about a template for a “New Member Orientation” twelve pages of frequently asked questions, answered before the new members know what to ask, or are too intimidated to ask them. Break out sessions in business practices and problem solving “Table Lodges”. The high point for me was the joint sessions when we learned and ate together with our new extended counterpart families. My wife Kimberly reports that she received the best and most information ever. Included in the presentations was Masonic history the apron lecture and information about Masonic funerals. About the three, five, and seven steps as well as the pillars and even installation planning. Real solid learning not simply a time marking fashion focus, although they presented great guidelines about what to wear and when. Kimberly is available to present any of this information to the ladies just ask her.

Saturday March 13th – 3:00 p.m. – Kitsap Peninsula Shrine Club @ Port Orchard Lodge #98 Zem Zem was at 3:00, Dinner at 4:00, with a meeting following. The ladies also enjoyed themselves. The club is gearing up for The Shrine Circus coming to the Kitsap Fair Sun Pavilion Grounds for two shows on Wednesday, April 28th.

Saturday, March 13 - 8:00/9:00 AM – Scottish Rite, Olympia Valley We had the 18th thru 32 Degrees and Coffee and fat pills at 8:00. Lunch was provided and they needed more help than they got. They had three candidates with one from Hoquiam. Scheduling was unfortunately in conflict with a lot of other events. Like the Warden’s Conference. Thursday March 18 - 7:00 p.m. – Warren G. Harding Lodge #260 Poulsbo, Special Communication: 1st Degree Two EA initiations Great work by the presiding Master (Brother) Mark Brooks (his first time in the East) and was flawless opening, conferring, and closing. I hope to do as well when I get there. Brother B.J. Quance SW from William H. Upton Naval and Military Lodge #206 brought a new EA Dennis Ramsey who enjoyed watching as much as I did. B.J. and I “tag teamed” and got through the lecture. #260 now has two new EA’s one of which is related to R.W.B. Dean Heinemann presently our own Grand JW

Saturday March 20 – 5:00 p.m. Steadfast #216, Manette (Bremerton) Sportsman’s Buffalo Dinner Scholarship Fundraiser: $8 Dinner was served at 5 PM so that the members can eat and still have time to attend the many other activities scheduled that evening. Small turnout and we had a repast of “Emerald chowder”- clam chowder with shrimp and lots of SPINICH. Buffalo meatloaf, mixed vegetables ,Rice pilaf was the culinary highpoint, pudding and cake Money raised supported the Bremerton Scholarship Program.”

Saturday March 20 – 5:00 p.m. Quilcene Lodge #107 Dinner and silent auction will go to pay for medical expenses and prostheses for Cathy Barsukoff:. W.M. Bob Gunther states that he is “very happy to report that the benefit dinner that Quilcene Lodge #107 put on last night was a great success. Evelyn Gunther cooked the meal and ran the kitchen crew. SW Bill Lazarus kept the dishwashing crew going. It was a hard task. We had planned on serving 100 but ended up serving 280 meal in an hour and fifteen minutes. SS Jim Lee headed up the clean up crew. When we got home from our hunt club practice today (held at the Quilcene Masonic Temple), Evelyn gave me a small box. She said here is the money to deposit. I was confused. What money? From the Hunt Club? It was from last's night benefit. The box contained cash and checks totaling $8,433. All of the money from the dinner and silent auction will go to pay for medical expenses and prostheses for Cathy Barsukoff. Cathy had an unfortunate accident earlier this year with a post hole digger and had her lower arm ripped off. I guess the event sponsored by the Masons was a success. We masons provided the hall, bought all the food and cooked all the food. (To be truthful Evelyn Gunther was the major worker.) We had lots of help from people from the communitie serving and removing dirty dishes. With some financial help from the Quilcene Lions (me) and the Quilcene VFW (VWB Arnie Finley), 100 % of the money collected will go directly to the fund for Cathy Barsukoff. It was not an easy thing to do, but sometimes when you try really hard you just might hit the ball out of the park for a grand slam. Good things do happen! I would like to thank all of you who came and supported us yesterday. You really impressed the towns people present when you all stood up at the benediction. Many people did not realize there were so many masons here in our area. One fellah did not realize that his good buddy for years was a mason. Thank you for wearing your Masonic and/or Shrine hats and coats. Later W.B. Bill Knecht and I took turns giving tours of our Lodge explaining the history of our fraternity. We divulged our great secrets: Friendship, Morality and Brotherly Love. We explained why we and ancient mason have secret signs, words, hand shakes and modes of recognition. (We did not give them to them.) We explained our position on religion and religions. We answered all questions frankly. These tours were very well received and several men (and their wives for their husbands) became very interested in membership in our fraternity. It was a good thing. Great food and fellowship in this one of two remaining “Moon Lodges” in the Jurisdiction. First time Presiding Master Mike Gettle. Always exemplary esoteric work at my mother Lodge. Thursday March 25 6:30/7:30 p.m. – Hood Canal #288, Belfair, Stated Communication: Bremerton Lodge’s Annual Visit with funny hat for the Master ask to see if he has his horns. Oyster stew headed the bill of fare, usually with an alternate dish for you brothers who don’t eat the food of the god’s. The Brethren vying for the position of Junior Grand Warden spoke and took questions. . The Junior Grand Warden you elect at Grand Lodge this year will be the Grand Master in four years. Announcements after Lodge in the banquet room, with dessert, is the norm in this Lodge.

Friday March 26 - 5:30/6:30p.m. –District 2 Reception of the Grand Master: Edmonds Masonic Center 515 Dayton St. Edmonds. 5:30 gathering/6:30 Dinner Meeting to followed.

Saturday March 27th – 9:00 a.m. – TriCounty Lodge Officers Association (TC LOA) Breakfast and Business Meeting: Gathered at 8:30 Breakfast $6, Ladies Invited. Meeting: came and met their counterparts in our two Districts. Scottish Rite Masons - Valley of Bremerton joined us for breakfast. L.O.A. Pres. W.M. Ken McVittie tells us that: “Bremerton Valley of Scottish Rite Masons & Wm. H. Upton Nav. & Mil. Lodge #206 have made contributions these two Masonic bodies both by vote at there last stated business meetings agreed to split 2/3 of the $75.00 monthly rent in order to have our Breakfast with meeting at the same time and place till the end of 2010. This is something to be proud of to say the least. Please thank those members of these bodies and more importantly come to the District Breakfasts and meetings to show your support and appreciation. [W.M. Ken is a member of both bodies, and we need to thank him for shepherding these contributions.]

“The best product on display at the 2010 Conference of Grand Masters was "Masonic Traveler", an IPhone (only) app available from the IPhone App Store for $7.99. It locates the 11,000 Masonic Lodges in the United States. It will tell you how many are within a specified distance from where you currently are, then the address and contact information for the Lodge you might want to visit. If you travel at all, it will tell you when the lodge meets, and give you directions for getting there. Within a month or two it will be updated to include Scottish Rite Valleys. SCHEDULING

I want all events to thrive. Scheduling sometimes is in conflict with a lot of other events. The scheduling Brethren maybe need to look at what else is going on in and around the Jurisdiction, your District, or abutting Districts. This would bring greater success for your event in the future. There are only so many Masons and we need to support each other for event successes. This blog is an attempt to do that. If you are scheduling an event that you would like or NEED attendance: Please look before you leap. If you have trouble figuring this out I would be happy to assist. You can eMail me or call me. You can also do the research yourself before picking an arbitrary date, even if you have always done it on that day or date, or in this method. Below you will find web sites that have specific dates. For example the Grand Masters Itinerary is on the front page of the G.L. website. He will draw a lot of brothers who wear the G.L. “hat”. If the Shrine is having one of their four or five annual events and you want those Shriner’s to attend, stay off those dates they have their Fez’s to wear. Large District events, planned a year or three to five months in advance deserve the special attendance solicited. It is not as easy as when your group was the only game in town. Today’s Masons will pick an event within a sixty mile Cabletow length and attend according to their priorities. We all need and want each other at our respective events. Let’s have fun together.

Some effort has been made to check the accuracy, but I have shown up to events that have been wrongly transcribed or cancelled. If there are two events at the same time on one day I will try to attend the first listed. This is only an attempt to make life easier for my Traveling Brothers who have requested this information, please notify me of any corrections deletions or additions. "You too can be a contributing reporter, but if you request a listing, please report it to me so I can post it in the "What Has Happened" section". In other words send me the information in as close to my format as you can adapt and I will post it. Here is my format:

Day of week, Date, - Time Name of Lodge, # __, Location, WHAT

Details You’ve already completed the When, Where, and What, in the details please tell us WHO and WHY or How, that’s it. Send it to me at fredcorbett@hctc.com and I will post it, usually within two days to a week, and will eMail you when I do.

If it is degree work please report who the degree is for, who is conferring and who is doing the lecture. If there is a connection to anyone already in the fraternity that would also be of interest to the Brethren. More information is always better for this publication.

Then after the event report about it, by a day or two after the event, especially if I myself did not make it to the particular event. It should contain WHO attended and how many, we already know WHAT, WHEN and WHERE. Finally we need to know WHY or HOW it went. Was it fun or informative? If it was a fundraiser how much money was raised. Was the food good? If it was a Degree, answer those questions particular to a Degree. Like who conferred, who received it, and who gave the lecture or was there another family connection? Don’t worry if you don’t remember all the details but report something. Look at the blog for examples. These answered questions will spark more interest and participation for your next event or next years occurrence of the event. That information will also be available for planning future events.
